We only have one body—and one planet. Purple Carrot was built on that truth. Our goal is simple: to provide nourishing, local goods made by people who believe in going back to basics. The name itself is a nod to origin stories—the original carrot wasn’t orange, but purple. So we return to the root. To what came before. And we invite our community to do the same.

Together, Cris and Cathy turned a shared vision into a wellness destination for the Lethbridge community. Learn what inspired each of them to start Purple Carrot.

Cathy’s Story
“My late husband Cam lived with purpose—and encouraged me to do the same. We spent years exploring the outdoors, living off-grid, and building a life grounded in nature. After he passed, his words stuck with me: What’s your passion?
Meeting Cris gave me a new lens on health—how the body works and how food fuels it. I found joy in learning where our food comes from and why local matters.
Today, Purple Carrot is my way of continuing that journey. I believe in small steps, in community, in intention. One body. One planet. Nourish with intent. That saying lives here, in everything we do.”

Cris’ Story
“I’ve wanted to open a health food store since I was 20, working at The Vitamin Shop in Victoria. Since then, I’ve worked in stores across BC and Alberta, always chasing that same feeling—home.
Health and sustainability have been part of my life since childhood. My family composted, reduced waste, wrote to politicians, and made conscious choices every day. Even my school projects were about cleaning up oil spills and protecting forests.
I believe we have a responsibility—to ourselves, to our communities, and to our planet—to do better. Purple Carrot is that belief, lived out loud.”
Where We Are Now
Since opening our doors, we’ve served thousands in Southern Alberta, diverted tens of thousands of bottles from the landfill, and educated our community about nutrition and sustainability.
We’ve expanded from a humble corner store to a purpose-built space with consulting rooms, a commercial kitchen, and space to grow—because our mission keeps growing, too. Zero waste is our destination. And we’re grateful to have you on the journey.
